Why We Work Closely with Architects & Interior Designers
Great coffee deserves a place in great design.
A coffee experience begins long before the first cup is served. It begins with the space around it. The materials we touch. The atmosphere we enter. The way a counter, kitchen or hospitality area becomes part of a larger architectural experience. In restaurants, hotels, offices and other carefully designed environments, every detail contributes to how people feel. Yet coffee equipment is often considered late in the design process, after the interior and its defining elements have already taken shape.
At SPECTER, we believe coffee deserves to be considered from the beginning. We collaborate with architects, interior designers and kitchen specialists to integrate exceptional coffee into thoughtfully designed spaces, without asking the architecture to compromise.
“Coffee should be part of the architecture. Not an afterthought.”
When Technology Makes Room for Design
Every space has its own identity. Materials, proportions, lighting and spatial relationships create a particular atmosphere. The coffee experience should complement that identity rather than interrupt it. Traditional coffee machines often occupy significant countertop space, becoming a dominant visual feature whether intended or not. SPECTER approaches the challenge differently. By placing the coffee technology beneath the counter, we leave only the essential dispensing elements and touchscreen visible above it.
The result is a different relationship between technology and architecture. A restaurant bar can retain its carefully considered expression. A workplace kitchen can remain visually coherent. A reception or hospitality counter can be designed around the space and its users rather than the dimensions of a conventional machine. And behind that simplicity is advanced coffee technology, engineered to produce exceptional espresso and milk-based beverages consistently.
“The best technology doesn't compete with the space. It complements it.”
The Best Collaborations Begin Early
The most successful installations are often those considered during the earliest stages of a project. When coffee becomes part of the architectural conversation, it creates opportunities that are difficult to achieve when equipment is introduced only after the interior has been completed. Cabinetry, ventilation, water supply, drainage, electrical connections and service access can all be considered as part of the overall design.
For SPECTER, collaboration means helping architects and designers understand these requirements without limiting their creative freedom. We provide technical dimensions, installation guidance and digital design resources to support the integration process. Whether a studio works independently with our design information or collaborates directly with us on a project-specific solution, our objective remains the same:
To make exceptional coffee a natural part of the architectural vision.
“The best time to design a coffee experience is when you design the space around it.”
Restaurant BARR — Where Architecture, Hospitality and Coffee Meet
At Restaurant BARR in Copenhagen, the relationship between architecture and experience is immediately apparent. The interior, designed by Spacon.Studio, brings together timber, tactile materials, carefully considered lighting and an inviting atmosphere. It is an environment where the details matter, not as individual decorative elements, but as part of the complete hospitality experience. Within this setting, SPECTER introduces a premium coffee experience without placing a conventional espresso machine on the counter. The coffee system is integrated beneath the worktop, while the discreet black dispensing elements and touchscreen become part of the counter's composition.
The installation is complemented by coffee from NOMA Kaffe, connecting the technology to a distinctive specialty coffee offering. For us, BARR illustrates how different disciplines can contribute to one cohesive experience. The interior architecture establishes the atmosphere. SPECTER provides the coffee technology. NOMA Kaffe contributes the coffee itself. The restaurant brings everything together in the guest experience.
Rather than competing for attention, these elements support one another.
“When every detail is considered, coffee becomes part of the experience.”
Beautiful Design Deserves Exceptional Coffee
An elegant installation is only part of the equation. Ultimately, the coffee itself must live up to the environment in which it is served. In professional hospitality, the challenge is not simply preparing one excellent beverage. It is maintaining quality across different users, service periods and operating conditions. SPECTER combines Eversys coffee technology with an intuitive dispensing interface, providing advanced espresso preparation and milk performance in a format that can be integrated into the surrounding architecture.
At BARR, this technology is paired with NOMA Kaffe. The combination reflects an important principle behind SPECTER: architectural integration should never come at the expense of the beverage. The quality of the coffee matters just as much as the appearance of the installation. For a restaurant, this means the coffee experience can contribute to the overall standard of hospitality without requiring the counter to become a conventional espresso bar.
“Beautiful design deserves exceptional coffee.”
Different Spaces. One Design Philosophy.
The same principles extend beyond hospitality.
At ADEPT Architects' offices in Copenhagen, SPECTER is integrated into a STYKKA kitchen, creating a premium workplace coffee and water station alongside specialty coffee from Poma Coffee. Our work with Carnegie Investment Bank, involving Sweco in the architectural planning, illustrates the value of incorporating coffee into the design and specification process. And in the upcoming Flere Fugle project at Cinemateket, with interiors by Arkival Studios, the same collaborative approach is being explored in another hospitality setting.
Different spaces have different needs. But the ambition remains consistent: to integrate exceptional coffee technology into environments that have been thoughtfully designed for the people using them.
Great Spaces Are Never Created Alone
Architecture, interior design, technology and coffee each bring their own expertise to a project. The most interesting results often emerge when these disciplines work together. That is why we want to build lasting relationships with architects and interior designers, not simply supply equipment to individual projects.
We want to contribute early, exchange ideas, help solve technical challenges and explore how coffee can become part of new environments. And when those projects come to life, we want to celebrate the people behind them. Because a successful installation is never just about the technology.
It is about the experience created when everything works together.
“Great spaces are never created alone.”
